In other words, not only are you free to license your music to anyone else; we also do not interfere with the traditional ways in which you promote and sell your music.
Business-To-Business
As an independent artist, you may already be selling your songs through an online retailer, distributor, or directly from your own website. There is no downside by also licensing your songs through Liberty for use in commercial content, often reaching new audiences outside your fan base.
Put your Music to work
These days, there are fewer (and newer) ways for composers and recording artists to generate revenue from their original recordings. With the advent of new media and technologies, even more opportunities exist to put your music to work. Numerous artists have already lent their songs to advertisements, films, television productions and video games.
Let Liberty put your music to work for you.
Liberty = Freedom
Licensing your music through Liberty leaves you free to pursue any other opportunities through any other channels with any of your submitted songs.
Fairness and transparency
We will do our best to make sure that all business matters are handled openly and in a spirit of co-operation. It's difficult to be creative when you're stressed out about business matters; we strive to provide great service and to be transparent and honourable.
Quality Over Quantity
Quality is first and foremost, so that every track a Licensee lands on has the potential to be “The Right Cut.”
Liberty listens for quality of :
- Composition
- Performance
- Recording
- Production
We are looking for both vocal and instrumental music, in every style and genre.
For vocal tracks, it is appreciated that you also send an instrumental version, if available.
Commercial Content Creators (CCC's) Need Your Music
Music is everywhere. The power of music to communicate in advertisements, films, television shows, websites and video games is undeniable.
Commercial content creators constantly need to source music for their projects : from radio advertisements and television programming to independent and feature films - music will always be an essential ingredient.
As the music industry continues to evolve, Liberty’s Business-To-Business music licensing model will connect your music to commercial users, whether you are an established recording artist or an emerging independent artist.
Liberty's Licensing Model
There are no initial sign-up fees or annual subscription fees for Composers/Artists or for Commercial Content Creators to use Liberty's service.
Commercial content creators pay Liberty a licensing fee for each song they license based on their intended use:
''The Three T's''
-TYPE of use (e.g. media platform and application)
-TERM of use (i.e. length of time)
-TERRITORY of use (e.g. local, regional, worldwide)
Liberty's license fees are determined according to market conditions for each combination of ''The Three T's'', and will be updated periodically.
Before receiving their selected music, commercial content creators must agree to Liberty's Licensee Agreement, stipulating ''The Three T's'' for their intended use, for each track licensed.
Within 60 days of each calendar quarter, Liberty will send artists/composers a cheque for 50% of license fees generated by their music; Liberty will retain 50% of license fees. N.B. In situations where there are music supervision fees or similar commissions involved, we feel it is fair to share such cost 50%/50% between artist/composer and Liberty.
Certain uses may generate additional performance royalties, which are payable to the artist/composer directly from his/her Performing Rights Organization (e.g. Socan, ASCAP, BMI).
Such performance royalties would be allocated as follows :
Artist/Composer : 100% of songwriters royalties
Artist/Composer : 50% of publishing royalties
Liberty : 50% of publishing royalties
It is important to note that the share of publishing royalties received by Liberty applies only for placements made by Liberty.
For artists/composers who are not currently members of a Performing Rights Organization (‘’PRO’’), Liberty will register songs with SOCAN (Canada’s PRO) on your behalf, according to the composer/performer/producer information that you have provided.
SOCAN has reciprocal agreements with performing rights societies worldwide, and it is recommended that artists/composers join their local PRO once a licensed use which generates performance royalties occurs.

Pre-Cleared Masters
Music supervisors, creative directors and film and television program producers are often facing tight deadlines and budget constraints. They can save time and money by selecting from music for which licenses for both the song and the recording have been pre-cleared, enabling them to find the tracks they need, license them immediately and process payment on the spot.
If You Get A Record or Publishing Deal
Since your agreement with Liberty is non-exclusive, everything is good to go from our side. However, if your Liberty submissions interfere with your deal and your (future) label is not pleased, Liberty will remove the tracks you wish to have removed upon receiving your written request to do so.
If You Already Have A Record or Publishing Deal
You can still submit your music to Liberty, as long as all parties involved sign the licensor agreement and consent to having your music licensed by Liberty. If your label would like a separate licensing agreement with specific details, we may also be able to provide it, on an individual basis. We would more than happy to assist you in making such arrangements where they are of benefit to both the artist/composer and the label.
